A generation ago, in 1979, China opened up its economy to private enterprise, foreign investment, and international trade, kicking off a tremendous economic boom, which is likely to give China the largest economy in the world in the near future. At the same time, China has resisted liberalization of its communist party controlled political system, thus giving the world a new hybrid – of free market economics and dictatorial communist politics. What, in your view, is the likelihood that this hybrid system can continue indefinitely in China? Why?
